Mouthguards & Nightguards

Nighttime teeth grinding and clenching is a common occurrence among many. With the incredible strength of the human jaw, up to 600 pounds of pressure may rub together damaging teeth, causing migraines, and producing jaw muscle soreness. Thankfully there is a solution!

At Cottonwood Dental Group, we provide customized nightguards and mouthguards to Highlands Ranch patients. To keep teeth intact, we recommend sport mouthguards for all children who participate in any physical sport. Because of the lack of customization, drugstore mouthguards may disturb the bite, majorly shifting the teeth and jaw. However, our lab designs a personalized mouthguard based on the bite and mouth of each patient. “The objective of a mouthguard is to allow the teeth to hit evenly with the same amount of pressure on all the teeth. Even with clenching and grinding, the muscles are more relaxed and not tense.”- Dr. Parsons.

Our patients have a variety of options for mouthguards and nightguards. The guard can be soft or hard, and even reinforced with metal substructures if necessary. A mouthguard can be produced in as little as two appointments: During the first appointment, impressions of the patients’ teeth are taken. A week later, the guard is delivered, along with instructions and a storage case.

Put a stop to worn-down teeth and headaches caused by clenching and grinding! Dr. DeLapp and Dr. Parsons can help with personalized nightguards and mouthguards for Highlands Ranch and surrounding area patients. Call today for your consultation!

Dental Hygiene

Regular dental exams and professional cleanings aid in attaining superior oral hygiene.

During your exam we take a full set of extraoral and intraoral radiograph photos, address any areas of concern, and discuss your treatment plan. After this a Cari-Free test is used to assess future risks such as gum disease. Finally, your professional cleaning is conducted.

Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea occurs when the tissues of the throat obstruct your airway during sleep. This blockage prevents oxygen from getting to the brain, and can disrupt healthy sleep patterns.

Drs. DeLapp and Parsons provide comfortable and easy-to-use sleep analysis equipment to be used in the comfort of your own home. Then we will create a treatment plan using our small, customized oral appliance to help you get a sound night’s sleep.

Oral Cancer Screenings

Did you know oral cancer is the third most common case of cancer? Oral cancer may start with a growth or sore in the mouth, which does not go away.

We conduct regular screenings using a life saving, safe, and powerful tool called VELscope, which assists in discovering any oral abnormalities. The tool’s blue-spectrum light causes the soft tissues of the mouth to naturally fluoresce and highlight any inflammation or bacteria present in the mouth. It helps us detect oral cancer before it spreads.

Our customized two appointments mouthguards based on the bite and mouth of each patient provide a personalized solution. During the first appointment, impressions of the patients’ teeth are taken. A week later, the guard is delivered, along with instructions and a storage case.

We also offer sportsguards for children who participate in sports.

‘‘A healthy smile and a healthy mouth lend themselves to a healthy body.
