In the case presented above … the lower central incisors begin to erupt to the tongue side inside of the baby teeth. These teeth do so because, in part, it is the path of least resistance. Normally the permanent tooth applies pressure to the baby tooth and the baby tooth’s root melts away. In this case the teeth erupted where there was least resistance

Color matching of dental crowns Highlands Ranch dentist, Denver Dentistry
Matching the color of teeth is an art more so than a science. Over the years Dentist have tried to communicate this information to the dental laboratory in various forms. In the past it was a drawing of the tooth and information obtained from a dental shade guide. This usually provided satisfactory results for its time. Today, we have moved into the new area where esthetics is king. The difficulty is relaying this information to the dental laboratory and the laboratory being able to deliver what our Highlands Ranch Dentists wishes is the challenge. This information is critical for dental crowns and especially for dental veneers. Our Highlands Ranch dentist provides cosmetic dentistry for patients living in Parker, Lone Tree, Castle Pines, Douglas County, Ken Caryl, Denver, Greenwood Village and Centennial Colorado.

Tooth appearance that our Highlands Ranch dentist first evaluates
First, we look to see if the tooth appears light or dark. In part this perception is controlled by the amount of light reflected back from the tooth. This brightness is termed “value” and our Highlands Ranch dentist feels this is the most important element in shade selection for a dental veneer. Value may be related to the tooth’s surfaced texture and morphology. The greater the texture of the tooth the less reflected light comes off the surface and the “darker” (lower value) the tooth appears. In contrast, a tooth with a very smooth surface reflects light (much like a mirror) appears lighter. One of the ways in which our Highlands Ranch dentists determine value is to take a digital photograph and with the aid of a computer transform the image to black and white. We call this the gray scale evaluation and it helps us determine the value of the tooth.

White dental crowns Highlands Ranch dentist, Denver Dentistry
There have been many innovations in dentistry especially in the last decade. Years ago about our only option was a gold crown. Over time this morphed into porcelain fused to metal dental crowns (PFM). Today, there are a number of very strong non-metal substructures that can be used to fabricate a dental crown. Dr. James DeLapp and Dr. H. Candace DeLapp, Highlands Ranch Dentists, provide non-metal alternatives to traditional porcelain fused to metal crowns. This Highlands Ranch dental office also serves dental patients from Lone Tree, Castle Pines, Centennial, Douglas County, Parker, Ken Caryl and the Denver area.

One of the materials our Highlands Ranch dentist use is “Lava Zirconia” from 3M ESPE. This is a digitally produced zirconia restoration that provides strength and natural aesthetics. The research and application of this material is over 25 years even though this material has only been recently introduced into the dental market. The shading system is available in 8 shades and improves the optical characteristics to make this material look better than porcelain fused to metal crowns.
