Dentistry above the gum line (Supragingival Dentistry)
With the advent of new dental materials our Denver and Highlands Ranch dentists are able to place tooth filling margins above the gums. In the past … most of the materials dentists worked with were cemented rather than bonded to the tooth. Cementing a dental restoration requires more tooth surface area. Denver Dentists Dr. James DeLapp and Dr. H. Candace DeLapp provide family and cosmetic dental services for patients in the Lone Tree, Highlands Ranch, Castle Pines, Parker, Centennial, Greenwood Village and Denver Tech Center areas of Colorado.
Esthetic advantages of all ceramic (tooth colored) materials
Our Highlands Ranch and Denver area dentists use all ceramic materials expecially in the front part of the mouth. On occasion they may choose to use ceramic material on first molars is esthetics dictates. Circa (2010) their office tends to use more traditional metal based material on the second molars (the very back tooth for many patients).
Why traditional metal restorations are usefull for back teeth
One of the elements that is difficult to predict with certainity is how much force the patient exerts on their back teeth. For many it is readily apparent and for other it is less apparent. For these patients we have found that a traditional PFM or full metal dental crown “may” work best.
Bonded restorations leave more of your tooth left
In order to do a traditional crown more tooth structure is removed when compared to a bonded inlay or onlay. In this manner we are able to “tooth bank” this virgin tooth structure that may be needed to a traditional dental crown at a later date.

Exercise appears to protect White Blood Cells
German researchers are in the process of publishing a paper in the journal Circulation that endurance athletes appear to be able to live a longer healthier life than healthy non smoking adults who did not exercise regularly. This fact may be due to the enhancement of white blood cells which have elongated telomers. When telomeres get t9o short they stop dividing and you begin to show signs of aging. Dr. James and Candace DeLapp are Highlands Ranch and Denver dentists who also serve patients in the Lone Tree, Castle Pines, Parker, Aurora, Centennial, Ken Caryl and Greenwood Village areas of Colorado.

The role of white blood cells
The role of white blood cells role was primarily thought to be to fight off infections but more recent studies have shown that white blood cells can also seek out abnormal cells growth associated with cancers. One speculation is why we become more susceptible to cancers as we age “may” be that the white blood cells themselves age and become less effective in removing cancerous cells.
New advances also state that a healthy mouth improves overall health Denver Dentistry
Numerous studies have shown that periodontal disease adversely affects your overall health. A chronic infection decreases you bodies over all ability to fight aging and effects your risk of heart attack and stroke.

Bone Preservation post tooth extraction
When a tooth is removed the bone that supported the tooth melts away. In addition, in time, this melting away continues where the gun ridge becomes both shorter and narrower. Denver Dentists Dr. James DeLapp and Dr. H. Candace DeLapp want to preserve as much bone as possible for a variety of reasons described below. This Denver and Highlands Ranch dental office serves Lone Tree, Castle Pines, Parker, Aurora, Greenwood Village, Ken Caryl, and Centennial areas of Colorado.
Dental Implant Placement Denver Dentistry
One of the many criteria used by our Denver implants dentist are the volume both height and width of the bone in the edentulous space (where the tooth is missing). Horowitz et al (2009) in Compendium of Continuing Education in Dentistrydescribes a study in which a synthetic bone was added to the extraction site. These authors used pure phase beta tricalcium phostpate to help preserve the ride volume after a tooth was extracted and prior to dental implant being placed. This bone augmentation preserved 91% of the bone volume when compared to 50% with out the augmentation.

A tooth or dental implant helps preserve bone
A tooth or dental implant helps preserve bone in the jaw. There have been postulated may reasons why this occurs but the good news it does. If a tooth is extracted and bone augmentation is accomplished a dental implant needs to be placed in the next 6 months to one years or the bone will melt away again. The key to remember is a tooth or dental implant keeps bone!

Crown lengthening
A recent article in the ADA News discusses the thinking process dentist should go through when determining whether to do crown lengthening. Highlands Ranch dentists Dr. James DeLapp and H. Candace DeLapp look for cases where crown lengthening would be appropriate. In a review of the lecture and article of Dr. Suzuki an Associate Dean at Temple University School of Dentistry stressed the importance of a review of the patients medical history and what is seen clinically.

Medical history of our Highlands Ranch Dental Patients
A review of your pertinent medical history is important before any crown lengthening is undertaken. The procedure is a gum surgery in which more of the tooth root is exposed by removing a “little” of the bone around it. Medical history elements to consider include but are not limited to:
- History of smoking
- Drug or alcohol use
- Blood pressure
- Liver health
- Lung health

Cosmetic Dentist Denver
Our Colorado cosmetic dentist offer a wide range of cosmetic dental services. Patients seek cosmetic dentistry for a variety of reasons. Many have a smile that has been bothersome to them for a period of time and they just need a change. For others the reasons is a promotion in a job that involves significant customer contact while others want to improve their smile with aesthetic dentistry for a wedding or high school class reunion.
Cosmetic Dentist Colorado services offered to improve your smile
They say the smile is the gateway to the soul. People who do not smile because of their teeth appear less approachable or unfriendly. We see patients time after time improve their social contact (jobs…to… confidence etc) after they have for example porcelain veneers. For others who want simply a more youthful smile simple dental whitening may be in order.
Porcelain Veneers Denver
Porcelain veneers are but one of the many aesthetic dentistry choices you may pick from. For many this is the gold standard to improve your smile if it is unsightly due to dental tooth wear or fracture. Time needed to accomplish this task to best esthetic outcome should NOT be rushed. Diagnostic wax-ups and trial runs of temporaries are a must. Other dental cosmetic services include
- One hour teeth whitening with Luma tooth whitening system
- Luma whitening with take home trays for difficult to “bleach” teeth
- Take home custom made dental whitening trays.
- Invisalign (nearly invisible orthodontics) and dental whitening
- Invisalign and dental veneers and/or porcelain crowns
- Porcelain dental veneers
- Combinations of any of the above procedures
Aesthetic Dental Laboratory
Our Denver Cosmetic Dentists use one of the finest Cosmetic Dental Laboratories in the United States. Las Vegas Esthetics (LVE) strive to fabricate state of the art dental restoration for our patients. Located in Las Vegas Nevada it is owned by Ray Foster. Ray is a world renowned dental laboratory technician as well as dental educator.
Dental Implants Denver
Let our Colorado Implant dentist evaluate your case. There are many options and alternatives to dental implants and you may or may not be a candidate for this procedure. The amount and quality of the remaining bone is one of the largest considerations of the ability of cosmetic dentist to place and restore the space between your teeth. New CAD/Cam technoligies from Nobel Biocare has taken implant and restoration to a new level. This technology makes possible “teeth -in -a-day”. It should be noted that there are certain requirements needed for teeth -in-a-day and really … only a few cases can use this technology. The most significant criteria is how “tight” the implant can be placed in to the bone.
Colorado Cosmetic Dentistry
Our Denver cosmetic dentists philosophy is “want based dentistry”. We ask you and together we procede in the direction you wish to go. You are the decision maker. We have patients who after investigating their options choose to to nothing. These patients at least know their options and if thier situatin changes those procedures are available for them to pursue. Most choose to undertake the cosmetic dentistry they wish. Please feel free to contact our Denver and HIghlands Ranch dentist office at (303) 694-9740. Much of the technology these Denver Dentist use is integrated by Scott Carvin of USWeb Central. Our Lone Tree and Highlands Ranch dentist use the diagnodent to determine if a tooth has a cavity. The diagnodent is used in conjunction with a visual examination and traditional caries detection methods. Our Lone Tree Colorado dentist understand that this is new technology and many dental patientshave questions about it. Below are some of the more common questions patients ask about the diagnodent. Our dental practice serves the Parker, Castle Pines, Ken Caryl, Douglas County, Greenwood Village and the Greater Denver area. The can be reached at (303) 694-9740.

Highlands Ranch and Denver dentist
How does the diagnodent work?
The diagnodent uses a low level laser to fluoresce the tooth. Cavities emit a certain wave length back to the sensor. The sensor picks up the returning light wave and emits both a digital read out as well as an audio sound.
Is the diagnodent painful?
Our Lone Tree and Highlands Ranch dentist have not found any sensitivity from this procedure. It is like shinning a light on the tooth.

This is the diagnodent
Why use a diagnodent?
We use the diagnodent because we are able to identify a cavity earlier. When detected earlier we can remove the cavity and preserve more of the natural tooth structure. Composite fillings (white dental fillings) allow us to bond to the tooth structure and conserve much more tooth structure that silver fillings allowed us to do.
Does the diagnodent work well with composite fillings or dental sealants?
As a general rule of thumb composite fillings (white dental fillings) fluoresce and can give false positives for cavities. In addition the teeth need to be cleaned and free of plaque and calculus.
Modern dentistry offers so many elements that technology. Having a dental Blog and being able to notify my patients (or potential “new” patients) has been exciting. Currently, I am working with Scott Carvin of US Web Central. Scott’s company is a Denver web design that has designed my web so I can write these Blogs. Many dentists purchased Blog information from a syndicated source and all of ours are written by the doctors. All of the typo’s and grammatical errors are ours! Scott’s Denver Web Design and Denver SEO Company works hard to get this information in a format that many in our community can take advantage of. We hope you find our information helpful. Please feel free to contact us at (303) 694-9740 for an appointment if you wish.
