Denver dentists Dr. James DeLapp and Dr. H. Candace DeLapp attended the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry(AACD) in Grapevine Texas this past week. This meeting was from April 27th to May 1st and involved most of the pre-eminent cosmetic dental instructors and clinicians in the world! Two of the instructors of International fame were Newton Fahl DDS (Brazil) and Lorenzo Vanini DDS MD from Italy.

How are the Esthetic Dental Conventions Organized?

Each day there was opening sessions with information on a variety of subject including Internet information.  There were eight (8) sessions each lasting  three hours that our Denver dentists could choose from.  The doctors DeLapp each took “different cosmetic dental courses and met every evening and reviewed each others courses  Between the morning and afternoon sessions various dental exhibitors provided information on a variety of dental products and cosmetic dental procedures.

Mastering Composite Artistry- Creating Anterior Masterpieces.

Newton Fahl DDS (Brazil) is work renowned for teaching dentists how to make life-like dental fillings.  The idea is to use artistic philosophy of emulating form … color… and function. There is substantial science behind dental filling and when combined with artistry is what both doctors are wishing to provide to their  Denver and Highlands Ranch  dental patients. Loeenzo Vanini DDS MD provide information on how to fabricated white dental fillings that “mimic” nature”. Dr. Vanini an Italian was able to deliver his lecture in English and did remarkably well. Dentistry above the gum line

Highlands Ranch Dentist, Denver Dentist, Parker Dentist, Ken Caryl Dentist, Lone Tree Dentist, Castle Pines DentistryDentistry above the gum line (Supragingival Dentistry)

With the advent of new dental materials our Denver and Highlands Ranch dentists are able to place tooth filling margins above the gums.  In the past … most of the materials dentists worked with were cemented rather than bonded to the tooth.  Cementing a dental restoration requires more tooth surface area. Denver Dentists Dr. James DeLapp and Dr. H. Candace DeLapp provide family and cosmetic dental services for patients in the Lone Tree, Highlands Ranch, Castle Pines, Parker, Centennial, Greenwood Village and Denver Tech Center areas of Colorado.

Esthetic advantages of all ceramic (tooth colored) materials

Our Highlands Ranch and Denver area dentists use all ceramic materials expecially in the front part of the mouth.  On occasion  they may choose to use ceramic material on first molars is esthetics dictates. Circa (2010) their office tends to use more traditional metal based material on the second molars (the very back tooth for many patients).

Why traditional metal restorations are usefull for back teeth

One of the elements that is difficult to predict with certainity is how much force the patient exerts on their back teeth. For many it is readily apparent and for other it is less apparent.  For these patients we have found that a traditional PFM  or full metal dental crown “may” work best.

Bonded restorations leave more of your tooth left

In order to do a traditional crown more tooth structure is removed when compared to a bonded inlay or onlay.  In this manner we are able to “tooth bank” this virgin tooth structure that may be needed to a traditional dental crown at a later date.

Tetracycline Staining of Teeth Highlands Ranch Dentistry

Posted under: Cosmetic Dentistry, Dental Veneers, Dentist Highlands Ranch, Denver Dentist, Highlands Ranch Dentist, dentist Denver — Dr. James DeLapp @ 8:54 pm

Highlands Ranch Dentist, Denver Dentist, Parker Dentist, Ken Caryl Dentist, Lone Tree Dentist, Castle Pines DentistryWhat can be done about tetracycline staining on teeth Highlands Ranch

A question came up at at birthday party our Denver Dentists Dr. James DeLapp and Dr. H. Candace DeLapp attended this weekend. This individual had had several does of tetracycline administered as a child for various reasons.  The unintended result was a significant darkening of their teeth and the question posed was… what can be done for this?

Will teeth whitening work?

Teeth whiten may or … may not work!  It depends upon the severity of the staining.  Our Dentists in Denver have not found a predictable way to determine how effective teeth whitening will be. The key is to whiten teeth and monitor the results.  In most instances it involves combining one-hour Luma teeth whitening with custom made take home whitening trays. Carbamide peroxide is the most common whitening solution that is used.  I comes in different concentrations an is responsible for whitening.

Dental Veneers

Dental veneers may be the most effective method of improving your smile if you have significant staining of your teeth due to tetracycline staining.  There are many methods and material uses to treat this.  In many instances pressed ceramic veneers may be most effective of blocking out the dark teeth.

Super gluing a dental crown (don’t do)

Posted under: Cosmetic Dentistry, Dentist Highlands Ranch, Parker Dentist — Dr. James DeLapp @ 8:13 am

Highlands Ranch Dentist, Denver Dentist, Parker Dentist, Ken Caryl Dentist, Lone Tree Dentist, Castle Pines DentistrySuper gluing a dental crown (not recommended)

Having a dental crown or veneers fall off or become loose is annoying at best.  There are several reasons why dental crowns fall off or become loose. The purpose of this post is not to determine why this occurs but on how to temporary secure it until you can see your dentist. Parker Dentist Dr. James DeLapp and Dr. H. Candace DeLapp provide Family and Cosmetic dental services for their patients in the Highlands Ranch, Denver, Castle Pines, Centennial, Lone Tree, Greenwood Village and Ken Caryl area of metro Denver.

to view our dental practice video click the following link Parker Dentist

What to use (only “if” necessary)

As a general overview it is not recommended to use Super Glue or similar type adhesive to bond on a dental crown or filling. “If” you cannot see a dentist immediately(please try) here a a few more acceptable type of temporary adhesives you may consider using:

  • Temp cement found at grocery store or pharmacy
  • Denture adhesive
  • Toothpaste

With most of these materials you will only get intermittent adhesion at best. Your dental crown could still fall out or you could swallow or inhale it. As a general rule “do not sleep” with denture adhesive or toothpaste used as a temporary cement.  These “could/will” loosen and can be inhaled (very bad) or swallowed (not great either)! One of the more difficult elements for this is getting the crown aligned properly prior to temporary cementation.  Try it on and take it off several times before applying any temporary adhesive.  Remember your best choice is to have a dentist either temporary cement it or use a stronger cement. If you do not feel comfortable in doing this… do not try it!

What “NOT” to use

As a general rule… Super glue is NOT recommended for use. Getting glue on your fingers can bond the crown to your finger. It can be removed but it certainly can complicate the process. It can set too fast and the crown is high in the bite. It appears to our Parker dentist that more things can go wrong with this type of material than can go right!

Your best choice

Your best choice is to see your dentist as soon as possible. Cavities can get underneath crowns and this should be addressed or identified. Remember the above choices are stop-gaps only.  You will need to see your dentist ASAP to have you dental crown professionally cemented or attended to. Please feel free to contact us for an appointment at (303) 694-9740.

Patient Satisfaction

Posted under: Cosmetic Dentistry, Dental Crowns, Denver Dentist, dentist Denver, denver seo — Dr. James DeLapp @ 11:30 pm

Highlands Ranch Dentist, Denver Dentist, Parker Dentist, Ken Caryl Dentist, Lone Tree Dentist, Castle Pines DentistryIs Patient Satisfaction  OK?

When you hear that any service you receive is satisfactory it may  or may not be a ringing endorsement for your business or service. Our Denver Dentist feels that patient satisfaction is the beginning level of service our dental practice wishes to provide to our patients.Customer or patient “loyalty” is the goal of our dental office.

How is patient loyalty obtained?

Gaining patient loyalty is a privilege our Denver dentist works on every day.  It starts with our low volume patient contact.  The doctors James DeLapp and H. Candace DeLapp(and their hygienists) are only scheduled one patient at a time.We don’t want to have a “waiting room” we want to have a “”reception room”.  Our goal is to see you “on time every time”. Being considerate of your time is just the first step of many we take to try to make your dental appointment memorable ( in a good way!)

Using the finest dental laboratories

Our Denver dentists get offers from Chinese dental labs for dental crowns that are produced by employees who make 60 cents an hour. Volume and price are the key to these foreign labs. Did you notice how we did not mention quality?

We choose to use Las Vegas Esthetic which is a leader is esthetics and quality among dental laboratories. Cost from this high quality esthetic dental laboratory can run 5 to 10 times the cost of foreign fabricated dental labs.  We feel the key in producing patient loyalty  is not to look only at the cost but quality of the final product.  This is another consideration we factor in how we try to exceed patient satisfaction and obtain your loyalty. We strive to provide the highest quality dental care in a customized setting.

White dental filling can replace silver or black fillings Dentist Highlands

    Ranch

Amalgam dental filling material was popularized in the Civil War and is a cost effective method of restoring teeth ravaged by dental decay.  This material combines silver alloy and mercury to make a compound that is similar and yet dissimilar to either of these metals.  The down side of this material is in time it corrodes and makes the silver filling appear black.  Some of the “older” formulations  “may” swell and cause cracks and craze lines in teeth. The material requires a certain depth and width to be effective. Consequently more tooth structure may be removed in order to accommodate the limitations of this filling material.

    White dental fillings Highlands Ranch

White dental fillings main attraction to patients is the color and the ability to blend in with the surrounding  teeth. From a dentists perspective less tooth structure is removed in order to accommodate this bonded filling material.
