Repairing a cavity with MI Paste Dentist Highlands Ranch
Dr. James DeLapp and Dr. H. Candace DeLapp (Highlands Ranch Dentists)have been using MI paste for the treatment of very early carious lesions (tooth cavity). If a beginning cavity is detected early the area “may” be treated successfully with MI Paste and in a certain number of cases we have seen radiographic evidence of tooth repair. Our Highlands Ranch and Denver Dentist also serve patients in the Lone Tree, Castle Pines, Ken Caryl, Parker, Centennial, and Greenwood Village Colorado.

How MI paste works Dentist Denver
The theory on how MI paste works is calcium and fluoride in specific concentrations can, in certain (but not all) cases re-mineralize the tooth structure destroyed by bacteria that causes dental decay. Our Highlands Ranch dentists want to emphasis that the decay has to be “very”small. Traditional treatment of decay with a dental filling is common for the “routine “small and larger areas of decay. The area re-mineralized may or may not be susceptible to the carious process at a later date. Home care consisting of brushing and flossing as well as diet control is an integral part of decreasing dental cavities.

Artistic dental veneers
In order to determine how your dental veneers should be fabricated our Denver Dentists first examine what proportions your teeth currently have. In general with some variation the with of the Central incisors should be 0.80 of the length. That would mean that the central incisors should not appear as a box shape with equal lengths and width. If the length of the central incisors is 10 “units” the width would be 8 “units”.
The use of Golden Proportions for dental veneers
The application of the Golden Proportion in smile analysis first involves taking a digital photograph of your smile. Our Denver Dentist then measures the “apparent length” of the teeth measures on the photograph. These numbers are different from measurement made on the actual teeth of models of your teeth. This is why the term “apparent” length and width of the teeth has been coined. The Golden Proportion has been described by the following ratio 1.6/1.0/0.6 What this mean is… if the lateral incisors width is 1.0 the central incisors width would be 1.6 on the photograph. The canine would be narrower and appear to be 0.6 of the width of the lateral incisor. Sound complicated… really not but it is hard to describe.
Evaluate your smile… what do your want to change?
The most common finding our dentist observe is square central incisors and lateral incisors that appear too narrow. It should be noted that there are an infinite number of combinations that can be made and each patient is different.

Dentistry and cosmetic dentistry has come along ways in the past 100 years and in particular the last twenty years. This patent’s front crown was fine looking as long as she did not give a big smile. When she did you could see a gray margin at the gum line. This gray line is due to the fact that metal of the PFM and porcelain finished at the same spot. It should be noted that in some situations this is the only way to produce the crown and esthetic “may” be compromised to a degree. Our Highalnds Ranch dentist also serve dental patients in the Denver, Parker, Ken Caryl, Castle Pines, Douglas County, and Lone Tree Colorado

In the early 1980’s dentists and dental laboratories began fabricating dental crownswhose margins were finished in porcelain. This was a significant improvement over preexisting technologies. It required modification in which the tooth was shaped leaving a flat margin in which to stack porcelain. This was a significant improvement in the existing technology and esthetic again made a tremendous leap forward. The disadvantage of this technology is the metal coping or under-structure did not allow light to pass through and the tooth “may” look a little gray.
All porcelain Dental Crowns
All porcelain technology including zirconium allow varying degrees of transillumination. This ability to transmit light has increased the vitality and looks of the dental crown. This technology can be used in “many” cases but not all cases. As an example, we had two different patients this week and only one of the two were we able to use the all-porcelain technology. The circumstances on which we needed to place the crowns dictated which technology we were able to employ.

Our Lone Tree Colorado dentist, Dr. James DeLapp and Dr. H. Candace discuss the value of periodic dental examinations and oral cancer. Some of this information comes from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) evaluation of dental patients. The earlier you dentist can identify lesions as a general rule… the more favorable the prognosis. Early detection is the key. Dr’s DeLapp serve dental patients in the Denver, Highlands Ranch, Parker, Centennial, Greenwood Village, Castle Pine, Englewood, and Ken Caryl area of Colorado

Overview of CDC recommendations for oral cancer examination in dentistry
According to the CDC 12% of all dysplasias will become cancer within five (5) years. A dysplasia is unorganized tissue that can be difficult to detect at times. Environmental and genetic issues include but are not limited to:
Family History of cancers of various types
Alcohol use
Smoking
Chewing tobacco
Sun exposure
Other
Diagnosis is made by biopsy
In evaluation areas in your mouth for cancer (or anywhere else on your person) is only accurate if a biopsy is taken. Once a biopsy is taken a pathologist evaluates the cell types and looks for evidence of cell change to a cancerous type of cell. Various tissues can look very similar with the naked eye but under a microscope the differences become evident.
Early Detection Saves Lives
Our Lone Tree Dentists stress the value of the periodic oral evaluation. In addition, you should be aware of any lump.. bump… or discolored tissue and bring that to the attention of your dentist or physician. As a general rule of thumb if an oral lesion does not heal in 10-14 day you should have this evaluated.

Our Lone Tree and Highlands Ranch dentist use the diagnodent to determine if a tooth has a cavity. The diagnodent is used in conjunction with a visual examination and traditional caries detection methods. Our Lone Tree Colorado dentist understand that this is new technology and many dental patientshave questions about it. Below are some of the more common questions patients ask about the diagnodent. Our dental practice serves the Parker, Castle Pines, Ken Caryl, Douglas County, Greenwood Village and the Greater Denver area. The can be reached at (303) 694-9740.
The diagnodent uses a low level laser to fluoresce the tooth. Cavities emit a certain wave length back to the sensor. The sensor picks up the returning light wave and emits both a digital read out as well as an audio sound.
Is the diagnodent painful?
Our Lone Tree and Highlands Ranch dentist have not found any sensitivity from this procedure. It is like shinning a light on the tooth.
This is the diagnodent
Why use a diagnodent?
We use the diagnodent because we are able to identify a cavity earlier. When detected earlier we can remove the cavity and preserve more of the natural tooth structure. Composite fillings (white dental fillings) allow us to bond to the tooth structure and conserve much more tooth structure that silver fillings allowed us to do.
Does the diagnodent work well with composite fillings or dental sealants?
As a general rule of thumb composite fillings (white dental fillings) fluoresce and can give false positives for cavities. In addition the teeth need to be cleaned and free of plaque and calculus.
Modern dentistry offers so many elements that technology. Having a dental Blog and being able to notify my patients (or potential “new” patients) has been exciting. Currently, I am working with Scott Carvin of US Web Central. Scott’s company is a Denver web design that has designed my web so I can write these Blogs. Many dentists purchased Blog information from a syndicated source and all of ours are written by the doctors. All of the typo’s and grammatical errors are ours! Scott’s Denver Web Design and Denver SEO Company works hard to get this information in a format that many in our community can take advantage of. We hope you find our information helpful. Please feel free to contact us at (303) 694-9740 for an appointment if you wish.

Younger dental patients are not receiving dental information from traditional sources. Podcasts allow dentist to reach a younger web savy generation. The age group that has been identified is the 18-35 year olds. This group represents the heaviest consumers of online videos and is the group the ADA is targeting. In this particular group… the days of a dental brochure explaining a procedure is fading fast. The podcasts are video and audio productions that will be posted on the ADA’s web site and may even be played back on iPods and well as computers with an Internet connection. Scott Carvin of UsWebCentral my Denver web design company will be helping me getting these podcasts available to may patients.
