2017 is here! Was one of your resolutions to become a healthier and happier self? If so, our Highlands Ranch dentist can help! Did you know there is a link between a healthy mouth and a healthy body? It’s called the oral systemic link!
Studies have shown that bacteria that live in our mouths that cause cavities, periodontal disease, gingivitis, and dental infections are the very same bacteria that can cause cardiovascular disease, stroke, diabetes, and even premature birth!
So what can you do to help minimize your risk?
First and most importantly, practice good oral habits at home 365 days a year. We recommend brushing for at least 2 minutes a minimum of 2 times per day with an electric toothbrush, our Highlands Ranch dentist recommends a Sonicare
Next, we recommend flossing or cleaning in between your teeth. Did you know that 40% of the tooth surface is in between your teeth! By ditching the floss you are missing a good portion of your tooth leaving harmful bacteria to damage your teeth and gums. If flossing seems too tedious, then we recommend the use of a Waterpik! Did you know that Waterpik not only will clean in between you teeth, but underneath your gums all the way around a tooth!
Finally, don’t skip out on regular visits to your dentist and dental hygienist. Our Highlands Ranch Dentists, Dr. DeLapp and Dr. Parsons will examine the health of your gums, quality of your bone, teeth health and overall appearance, conduct an oral cancer examination, and examine your jaw joint at every visit. In addition our wonderful hygienist Ann, will help get your teeth and gums in shape with a professional cleaning.
